Originally from the banks of the Nile, this plant of the Apiaceae family contains small striated seeds of a few millimeters. Used for millennia, cumin was found in the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs and served as currency until the Middle Ages.
Its warm notes immediately evoke oriental cuisines. Its taste is powerful, slightly spicy, acrid with a touch of bitterness.
In seeds or powder, it goes well with bread, pastries, cheese, fish, poultry and soups. An essential ingredient in many curries, cumin deliciously spices up grated carrots.
